Charleston Packing: What I Wore & What I Bought

When I’m visiting a new city, the first place I go for outfit inspo is Pinterest. I love to get a feel for the vibe before I start packing—it helps me step out of my usual style and lean into something more themed. Call me a tourist, but I love a theme moment when packing.

For Charleston & Folly Beach, I’m definitely feeling spring-forward: florals, soft silhouettes, beachy accessories, and a few bold extras. And since there’s a tennis open happening this weekend, I couldn’t resist leaning into that sporty-chic aesthetic too.

Here’s what made it into my (very edited) carry-on:

Floral Everything

  • Outfit: Floral dress, straw bag, wrap-up sandals
I wanted something that screams spring but still feels elevated. I grabbed a floral dress and paired it with a brown leather handbag and easy sandals—perfect for walking around town or grabbing a drink at Bourbon N’ Bubbles or Henry’s On The Market.

Beach Mode

  • Outfit: Swimsuit, caftan, beach bag
I always pack a beach-ready look that can take me from soaking up the sun to sipping cocktails at Bar Blu or grabbing a spontaneous lunch at Rita’s Seaside Grille. My go-to this trip: a chic caftan layered over a classic swimsuit, plus my trusty straw tote.

Southern Style with a Twist

  • Outfit: Drop-waist dress, silk scarf, sandals
I’ve been seeing drop-waist dresses everywhere lately, so I had to bring one (or two). I styled it with a silk scarf and flat sandals—effortless, comfy, and a little vintage-feeling.

The One Thing I Had to Buy

Every trip, I allow myself one special purchase. This time? A new hat. I wanted something I could wear in Charleston and on future travels—a chic upgrade from the cowgirl hat I immediately associate with the South.

(Side note: my last “trip treasure” was a fringe leather jacket from a vintage shop in Breckenridge. It had shoulder pads and everything. Would've totally brought it here if the weather wasn’t 80 degrees!)

What I Wore to the Airport

I’m a carry-on girl, so strategic packing is key. I wore my sneakers (to save space), a pink tennis skirt (hello, tennis open weekend!), and a sweater that I could wear throughout the trip. The skirt has built-in shorts, so it was cute and functional. Win-win.

My Beach Bag Essentials

  • SPF 15 by Sun Bum – I’m in need of a pre-summer glow

  • Sudoku book – always a travel must

  • Vogue April 2025 issue – fits perfectly by my laptop

  • Polarized Versace sunnies – ideal for going from full sun to indoors

Pro tip: I snagged my wrap-up sandals last-minute thanks to my Target 360 membership. I originally had a pair from ASOS in mind, but these arrived same-day—literally showed up at my door without me even leaving the house. The convenience is unreal.

Final Thought

Packing for Charleston made me so excited for spring. I got to wear some beautiful pieces from the Spring 2025 Natori Collection and really leaned into light fabrics, whites (yes, even before Memorial Day!), and playful accessories. Southern charm, meet NYC styling.
